Technician Support
Optical Design Engineer

Technician Support

Technician Support is responsible for providing support to Engineers, Product Manager and Manufacturing Team. The role includes document definition, process definition, engineering analysis and testing, research and evaluation of existing and new product. It also requires the application of extensive and broad technical experience and full knowledge of numerous fields related to various types of glass and plastic optical components and assemblies. It will also include analyzing and evaluating the optical, mechanical and environmental characteristics of optical elements and assemblies; defining and supporting the performance of test activities to evaluate technologies and predict performance.
Responsibilities
• Provide direct support to design engineers by completing manufacturing documentation and engineering changes
• Provide support to product manager and marketing with technical analysis and product recommendation
• Optimize manufacturing yield and estimate manufacturing time
• Support design of optical components and assemblies to specification requirements
• Research material and processes
• Characterization of optical components
• Perform various mechanical, optical and environmental tests
• Define testing strategies
• Provide critical understanding of product requirements to manufacturing and similarly be manufacturing capability leader to engineers
• Interface with vendors on specific technical matters
• Support role to manufacturing team
• Develop test configurations and be aware of current fabrication, assembly and test techniques
• Organize and communicate work and results in both formal and informal settings
• Function as individual contributor, member of cross-functional design/development team, or Project/Program Leader
Qualifications
• Hands on experience in a manufacturing environment that includes manual assembly and basic fabrication
• At least 5 years of experience in design support role of aerospace/avionics components involving optics
• Demonstrated ability to use photometric test equipment
• Technical understanding and experience of deposition methods and metrics, glass and plastic material properties and adhesive properties
• Knowledge of optical thin film coating design, process and inspection
• Knowledge of Military environmental specifications and aerospace lighting specifications
• Solid understanding of design for manufacturing including all documentation for the products release
• Ability to perform DOE, SPC and failure analysis, Six Sigma continuous improvement tools
• Experience in clean-room working practices
• BS degree in Engineering with m inimum of three (3) years of relevant experience preferably in aerospace
• Effective written/verbal communication skills; computing skills (Windows, Microsoft Office)
• Must be a US citizen for this position

Optical Design Engineer
Optical Design Engineer is responsible for defining requirements and performing design activities related to various types of glass and plastic optical components and assemblies. The position will also include analyzing and evaluating the optical, mechanical and environmental characteristics of optical elements and assemblies; defining and supporting the performance of test activities to evaluate technologies and predict performance; providing technical direction to suppliers; and evaluating suppliers’ technical performance. This position requires the application of extensive and broad technical experience and full knowledge of other related disciplines.
Responsibilities
•  Manage development projects including New Product Introduction activities
•  Prepare engineering estimates, risk analysis, development plans
•  Establish design strategies
•  Design optical components and assemblies to specification requirements
•  Research material and processes
•  Develop new products
•  Optical characterization of optical components
•  Perform various mechanical, optical, environmental tests
•  Define testing strategies
•  Perform tolerance studies
•  Develop complex optical and mathematical predictive models
•  Design optical coatings to meet customer and internal specifications
•  Interface with customers and vendors on specific technical matters
•  Support role to business development team
•  Support role to manufacturing team
•  Innovate as well as modify and optimize existing solutions
•  Develop test configurations and be aware of current fabrication, assembly and test techniques
•  Responsible for organizing and communicating their work and results in both formal and informal settings
•  Function as individual contributor, member of cross-functional design/development team, or Project/Program Leader
Qualifications
•  A technical understanding and experience of deposition methods and metrics, glass and plastic material properties and adhesive properties is required
•  Experience in flat panel AMLCD in aerospace applications: An in-depth understanding of LCD technology and display systems including bonding, lamination and module design
•  Knowledge of optical thin film coating design, process and inspection including modifying coating layer thicknesses as a function of use angle of incidence
•  Knowledge and experience in free space optics, imaging optics and optical systems design in the IR ranges
•  Experience with optical design and analysis software (e.g. Zemax, CodeV, FRED)
•  Strong analytical and practical knowledge of geometrical and physical optics
•  Knowledge of Military environmental specifications and aerospace lighting specifications
•  Solid understanding of design for manufacturing including all documentation for product release
•  Demonstrated ability to perform DOE, SPC and failure analysis, Six Sigma continuous improvement tools
•  Experience of clean-room working practices
•  BS degree in Engineering with minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience preferably in aerospace
•  Effective written/verbal communication skills; computing skills (Windows, Microsoft Office)
